REVENGE OF THE SITH

We all know what I did this morning, I saw the last installment of the Star Wars Saga and I enjoyed it.

I have been following the progress of this movie like no other. Lucas Film allowed fans an in-depth and up to date coverage of the making of this movie, more so than any other movie (in history I'm sure). In June, 2003 starwars.com started the on set webcam (for paying members only), from there there's been a plethora of information and spoilers on a daily basis so the movie itself was no surprise for me, it does mean I have been 'enjoying' this movie for almost 2 years (and counting).

I should talk about the movie itself though... it's like no other Star Wars movie, it's hard to describe but they managed to cram a lot in (and leave quite a bit on the cutting room floor, but you'll have to check out the DVD in November for those bits). There are more planets seen in this one movie than in all of the other 5 put together. I think it's going to be best for me to just 'cut and paste' some reviews I have read :)

"The Washington Post praises director George Lucas not only for the remarkable special effects in the film but for his willingness to address the fundamental question, "What makes man evil?"

"Nobody ever went to a Star Wars picture for the acting. Even as he has pushed back into the Jedi past, Mr. Lucas has been inventing the cinematic future, and the sheer beauty, energy and visual coherence of Revenge of the Sith is nothing short of breathtaking."

"It's a tribute to the power and durability of the universe Lucas and company created in the first three Star Wars movies that we want to see this episode despite the tedium of the previous two and despite knowing exactly what will happen in it."

Lots of reviews pan the dialog and acting. I have always loved a quote from Harrison Ford from the set of the original Star Wars (Episode IV: A New Hope) in regards to the dialog:

"George, you can write this shit, but you can't say it."

To me the Star Wars Saga is a 'Space Opera' with an intricate weaving of motifs, fundamental issues and mythology set amongst a fantastical galaxy far, far away... and I like it.

REFERRALS

How do you end up at my site? Do you have this page bookmarked? Do you just type the address, or do you keep forgetting it so you Google me?

I checked out the 'referrals' section of my site meter and discovered that some people had came to my site by various avenues.

* Via links at the Heaps, Tim's, Chris' and Mic's blogs

* Searching Google (au and uk), MSN and Yahoo for 'goldfinch', 'goldfinch family' (sounds familiar) or 'phil goldfinch'. There were even searches for 'pictures of goldfinch', 'cartoon called family circle' and even 'cartoon prawns' that lead people to this site.

Someone is even using Bloglines.com which from what I can gather is a place that keeps an eye on blogs you like and tells you when they have been updated... or something to that effect :)

Ummm... that's it. Sorry to have wasted you time. Come back now ya hear!

UPDATE

Charlotte's top teeth have now broken gum and are making their way down. She is a better infant to spend the day with now and is daring herself to stand on her own. She manages around ten seconds with no support before landing on her buttocks, I even saw her drink from her sippy cup with both hands on the cup, standing without any support! She has also mastered a nice yell, now I won't call it a scream but it is a good yell with a lot of volume. She has started saying 'hello' but comes out 'Hiya'. She'll say 'Hiya Dada' and 'Hiya mum' to us, even to the appropriate recipient! Charlotte can clap (with a dominant left hand too, we RULE THE WORLD) and wave quite regally. We are teaching her to High Five and seems to enjoy it.

Anywho, enough of that I better get back to work ;)

8 or so days to go.

SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING OLD PT2

So last night Kristin and I went to the shops and she treated me to some new boxer shorts! Yay! After picking out my choice of underdax, we made our way to... wait for it... Mac Centric, an Apple store to pic up my very own 30G iPod Photo!!

Before I start ranting and raving about this lovely product I would like to thank all those who had a hand in making it possible. Props to Kristin & Charlotte, Mum & Dad, Peter & Valerie, Tim, The Heaps, Gerard & Briar, and Wayne!!

This thing is great! I now have all my contact details, all my calendar info, all of my photos (3,176), all of my music (3,954), all of my musics cover art (around 70% of total songs), a colour screen, loud sound and 4 fun games... no seriously, they're fun!

The problem I'm facing is what do I listen to? Up to today I had a MiniDisk player that I had to 'record' songs onto 'tapes' so I only put the cream of the crop on them. Now that I have my library at my fingertips, do I listen to songs I haven't listened to much? How about just listen to them all in order... but what order? Artist, starting with 2 Unlimited (No Limit) and finishing with ZZ Top (La Grange)? Or how about Albums, starting with ...Art (Regurgitator) and finishing with You Can Take What's Mine (george)? I could sort it by song and start with ! (Song Formerly Known As) (Regurgitator) and finishing with Ziggy Stardust (Ziggy Stardust AKA David Bowie)?!

Oh, and by the way, the something old is my headphones ;)

And now the fun begins... don't worry Tim, the pic is on its way :P

5/5/05

Today is my birthday... and I'm at work! Oh well you can't win then all. Kristin is taking me to the shops tonight for a surprise... hmmm, I'll have to let you know what happened tomorrow ;)

Charlotte is whingeing a lot more and we can see her two front teeth bulging (and one or two more just to make things interesting). She is getting confident with standing up without any support, but with that she is falling over more and getting a few bumps and bruises.

Just a quick post. More tomorrow

THE LION KING

Kristin & I went to see The Lion King stage show last Saturday night. We were out to celebrate out wedding anniversary and it was a nice way to do it. I enjoyed the show but there were some small elements that would either let my expectation down or just annoy me.

From all I had seen (or perceived) before hand, I was expecting about 30 or 40 actors on stage as a whole range of animals from the African countryside... instead it was about half what I thought and so to me it seemed a little empty at times. Then there was the interspersed 'interpretive dance' segments, need I say more?! The 'players' with the birds on poles had little chinaman hats on?!?! ...and the silly American accents for the cubs and hyenas (some animals had African accents, two had English), I know this all comes from the cartoon but we could make an improvement here and there considering the majority of the cast is either an Australian or New Zealander.

It was fun and if you love some native African singing and liked the movie, I recommend it. If you have never heard of 'Hakuna Matata' you could give it a miss. Highlights are the well known songs Circle of Life, I Just Can't Wait to Be King and Can You Feel the Love Tonight
