House, tick.

Ok. So after our visit to Melbourne last weekend, we put in one application for a house to rent and were told today that we have been successful! Now all we need to do is finish the paper work.

Next up is Day Care for Charlotte. There isn't much available though there are lots of great centers nearby. We have one that we are looking further into, fingers crossed that it's what we are after.

Mum's Birthday

Hippo Birdies Two Ewes to my mum for last week. As you may have read over at Amy and also Tim's blogs, we were all up at Tahlee from Thursday. For a better rendition of said weekend, check out both of their entries.

My contribution will be that Kristin, Charlotte and I had a fantastic long weekend and now have to get 'back on track' with our eating.

Another entry should follow towards the end of this week to give an update on Melbourne...

Mum & Kids (I know Amy posted this pic too but she herself said my photo was better...)

Moving to Melbourne

Big News time.

As most of you who read this Blog will know, we are moving to Melbourne.

We have two weeks annual leave in Queensland at the end of March and I am due to start my job in Melbourne the week starting the 31st March.

It's a big move for us as we know no one down there. We have some friends of friends etc but no one close... I'm sure we'll be fine though.

Here's a recent pic of Charlotte wandering around the house in Kristin's shoes!

Bits and pieces going on...

Kristin got a raise to a new position at work, well done!!

Charlotte started a new Day Care (that we are now calling "Pre-School") and is doing well but realises she can stay up a little longer at night and get attention in the morning if she insists that she doesn't want to go to new Pre-School.

I'm plugging away at work. Happy as Larry.

Caught a Bug

Kristin & I seem to have caught a bug... the Deutschland bug!!

We have both been hankering to travel again and to also head back to Germany. I had thought that since we did such a thorough job of seeing Germany that we could move on to traveling elsewhere later... I'm not too sure that will be likely. With my job I have an opportunity every now and then to do some travel. Just recently there was a job being printed in Germany near Düsseldorf, if my manager was unable to attend then I would have gone but alas he was fit and well and it was a success (for him). Late next week he will be heading back there for one day! Now as rough as that sounds traveling for 45-odd hours for what would be roughly 5 hours work, I would love to do it just to get back to Germany.

Anywho, things are cool with us. We're finally sorting out our Tax from 05-06. Daycare prices will be going up 8%!! at Charlotte's daycare... we don't want to pull her out but we are looking at alternatives.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM!!!!!!!!!!

Though the last post was Jan 3, Happy New Year, Happy Valentines! Easter is just around the corner and it looks like a doosie this year. You can put money down on Nougat Eggs all round!!

We have had a frantic month.

Lübeck (and some photos of food)

or should I have written, Food (and some photos of Lübeck)?

We got away well from Monica & Günther's, leaving behind in Drebber some great friends and 'family' that we won't see for who knows how long... :(

We found Lübeck with Kristin's immaculate navigation and some good German road signage. We didn't have long in Lübeck because we were due in Berlin by 3pm the next day, we still managed to fit in quite a bit.

We had a nice lunch at the Lübeck Rathaus (Town Hall), cruised Downtown Lübeck and met up with Greta again. Then some more cruising.

Dinner was a nice Italian where Charlotte devoured a huge spaghetti bolognese! I then took Charlotte back to our hotel and left Kristin & Greta to have a girls night out.

The next day was an early start for one of our longest car trips over to Berlin.

Holsten Gate, the 15thC gates to Lübeck. If you look hard, they are renovating it so there is scaffolding all around but they have printed on the canvas what it looks like underneath, we found this quite a lot throughout our trip.

The bells at St Mary's Cathedral fell down when it was bombed in WWII, they have left them where they fell as a reminder.

The Devil's Stone outside St Mary's. There is a cute story of how the Devil was going to trow this huge stone at the cathedral.

The Lübeck Rathaus. If you click on the link you'll be able to see Charlotte & I.

One of the many reasons I could easily live in Deutschland.

DIEPHOLZ Cont.

We... ok, I spent the next day reovering and we went to vist Nils' parents who live near by (we found ourselves a little misguided by Kristin's memory but at lest we got to see Dickle!! wow!!).

Below is a video of Charlotte at the Rosenberger's. Nils' mum gave Charlotte a hug white Teddy to play with. Soon she was running from one room to another just to give it and Nils' mum a cuddle, too cute!

Here is the greatest game on Earth, it's called Rummikub

Off to the Dummersee (which is Dummer lake), a very nice, and one of Germany's largest inland lakes.

The Museumsdorf (Village Museum) in Cloppenburg. Entrance

A good example of the old Bahnhaus. The farmers lived in the back of the barn and the front 2/3rds was for the animals! Also note the German writting across the top of the entrance, these were normaly religious quotes from the bible and the such.

DIEPHOLZ

We all left Köln for Diepholz (I pronounce it De-poll-tz) to spend 5 nights with Kristin's Mama & Papa who we had not seen in many years. Kristin had not been back to Deipholz, the place where she spent a (life changeing) year of her adolecence, some things had changed (there's a Maccas now!) but most things had remained the same.

We stopped off in Münster on the way for lunch (an oversight on our behalf seeing as the stop made us late to Mama & Papas, we still had quite a way to go, it was Friday afternoon and the begining of school holidays!).

Downtown Münster

Party... ok it doesn't look like much but after dinner and quite a few more beers, it was rockin'

Arrive in Frankfurt Am Main - Köln (Cologne)

Our German mate Nils (you'll see him in the video below standing next to Kristin) woke up at 2am to catch a train to meet us at the airport! After a few jet-lagged minutes of trying to find a lift to where we needed to be, we got our Volvo and were on our way. The photo below was taken on our last day but really should be at the beginning of the trip.

We (Kristin navigated and I drove all but 1 day (made a good pair and covered just over 3000 kms in the 3 weeks)) made our way up the Rhine to Cologne

We met up with Andrea after her first job interview (she got the job btw) and cruised around Cologne. A spot of shopping (didn't buy anything), icecream and just some good general site-seeing.

We're Back

Back from our trip to germany.

All went well. Could not have asked for a better driving holiday to Germany with a partner and a two-year-old.

More stories to come as we sort through the 500 odd photos (you gotta love the digital age!)
